I saw this newly released boxset by Sony of all the recordings made by Gould over a period spanning about a quarter of a century and my first reaction was that Sony was unashamedly milking the proverbial cow...It does however look like the remasterin...

I see some posts predicting that the use of bronze for the Mid-Range horns (see photos above) would result in ringing... Well, I respectfully beg to differ; I think this is one area where the designer may have done well... Too bad he polished them.

Thanks very much Romy and Dan for the input.
With the exception of a structure to locate the horns, I have all the tools necessary to make the measurements.
Though this is all happening in France where DSPs and TADS rule* (see note at end), all...

Last Sunday I was driving across New Hampshire and WGBH-FM broadcasted the 1929 performance of Haydn’s Symphony No. 94 in G major, "Surprise". It was Boston Symphony Orchestra under Serge Koussevitzky. As many times I heard the work it was alwa...

Well, I do not know what it would mean. Regardless his “constitutional status” Row’s article is much more informative and much more educational for people who have interest in the MAXXes then the brainless saliva dropping that many industry cheerlead...

It is imposable entering the holiday season to walk across Boston’s Beacon Hill neighborhood and do not be “abused” by sound of Nutcracker coming from each open window. I just returned from my 15 minuets walk across Beacon Hill to my favorite Antonio...

OK, maybe it needs a bit more detail ,or say perspective as regards to this audio-cooking effort. NO QUESTION, we first have to look after the object before we joy-ride, or joye-feast, oh yes! I mentioned quality and caring somewhere just a short...

I once came across this article on Stereo and Phase by JM LeCleach. It has interesting considerations on the subject of imaging:

Romy, let me step up to the plate and get shot in the foot or what ever. A lot of what you relate is of course right - BUT, 'where the is smoke - there is a fire" as the saying goes. So, there must be a reason for this 'abnormal' notice of honking horn...

Mr. Witmer seems like a very thoughtful and well-spoken person who is taken with the aesthetics/approach of various Japanese sound Senseis, most of whom are in turn rooted in "historical" American and/or English audio sensibilities. I'm afraid ...

There is nothing more absurd in audio than to see how people wish very sober faces pontificate about absolute BS and treat themselves with seriousness of NASSA engineers. Here is the new round:

The whole room (L-shaped) is larger as you all noticed, but as Roman saw in my Blog , the listening space is smaller - i.e. about 6,5 x 4,5 meters with low 2,70 ceiling - and is a perennial work in progress... yes, the Stereo Lab 1000 hz is a true wa...
